3:02 am - sales floor /ad prep /set up

fighter83
I have been at my store for the last 8 yrs, will be 9 in this November. I have mostly been between HBA/Cosmetics dept closer /cashier back up / ad prep/set up. I have recently taken over the ad prep during the week and Sunday 4am set up.
I needed a change from being out on the floor, its nice to have my quiet time in the office during the week to prep the ad, but will see how i handle it in a few months come holidays....

Does anyone else do ad prep?
or HBA?

9:23 am - Working at a SuperTarget?

kellie_crystals
The Target I currently work at will be shutting down next month, and I will be transfering to a SuperTarget that is closer to my house. The thing is, the Target I work at is one of the oldest (and smallest). We only have about 70 employees; no pharmacy, no Starbucks, no bakery, no photo department, very little grocery section, and very little inventory of every other department. It's always been fairly steady working here, and everyone knows everyone; it's like a tight-knit community.
I recently went shopping at the store I will be transferring to and I'm kind of starting to regret my decision going to a SuperTarget. It seems almost as busy as Walmart (which I loathe and vowed to never work for) and the team members don't seem very friendly. I don't know if I just went in on a bad day, or if it's just this particular Target, but I got a bad vibe.

My question to anyone working at SuperTarget....what exactly is it like for you? Are you guys tight-knit or do you all do your own thing? Do you get a good number of hours? (I've worked here for 3 years as Guest Service/cashier and never get less than 25 hours) Is it constantly busy to the point of stressful like Walmart, or just on and off? What are the guests and LODs like at your store? Any other info would be helpful. :)

7:45 pm - I found my Underground Railroad out of being a Target slave.

shadesofblack07
After working here for a little bit more than 2 years, I finally quit. A couple months ago, I found another job that pays a little less than what I earned at Target, but gives me as more hours a week than Target would ever give me, and I get to chose my hours, and not have to deal with guests or anything of that sort. Since then, I've been balancing both jobs and 18 units at school. I did this for three months, and I felt like an unhealthy lifeless zombie.

Anyway, I can feel myself getting tired of Target, and I felt that the ETLs were getting tired of me through their forced enthusiastic happy-go-lucky smiles. I was a good worker and I had good work ethics... but all the ETLs only put focus on time and money rather than the quality that they preach so much about. I may not get as much redcards and attachments as they expect me to, but I know I go out of my way to give damn well good service... better than I've seen in other Targets that I've been to... and that was the most important thing to me at Target - helping guests.

Anyway, the ETLs proved how much faith they had in me prior to the week I was due to leave. I called in one Wednesday saying I could not make it because I had a midterm the following morning and I could not close. That following Saturday, I went to work, and  my co-worker had informed me that they asked him to extend because they told him that I had "quit on" them. I did feel a little bit annoyed because I felt they had underestimated my loyalty and dedication. I wasnt the type to just "walk out" and if I was, I would have done it a long time ago.

Anyway, Target was a stepping stone for me, and although I may bitch and moan about the job, I know there are jobs that are far worse, where the managers are so much worse. Today was my last day at Target, and although the ETLs and TLs said nothing, my co-workers were sad to see me go, and the feelings reciprocated. I walked out of there, knowing that would be my last time wearing the combination of Red and Khakis.

PEACE.

10:09 am - Always closing Saturday nights

kellie_crystals
Every week it changes where I could be opening or closing any day (except when I'm off Tuesdays and Thursdays), but every single Saturday I'm the closing guest service. The same lady opens guest service every Saturday morning because she has to care for a family member during weekend nights, so that's understandable. But I'm not the only other person in the store who's guest service trained, so I'm really not sure why I get stuck with the closing shift all the time.

Does it sound tacky to talk to the HR and ask for more opening shifts? Looking at my schedule it seems she gets lazy coming to Saturday and doesn't bother to put someone else on closing once in a while, unless I request it off. Even if I can't be an opening guest service I wouldn't mind just cashiering in the morning. I just don't think it's very fair how I have to always be stuck closing on the busiest night of the week. (Every week I see different people up front and on the floor, meaning that other team members don't ALWAYS have to close Saturday nights) And with fourth quarter coming up it will be especially sucky, seeing as it will be extra busy and that there will be blackout dates for requesting time off.

Has anyone else had this issue? Do you ignore it or how do you go about it without sounding whiney or ungrateful?

11:38 pm - ID to buy Pepsi!!

lhsmallfry

Something in the system got mixed up and it required ID to buy the 12 pack of Diet Pepsi and some (but not all) of the other Pepsi products.  I dreaded it when I saw people put there box of Pepsi product on the belt because I new what was coming.  I would have to ask for there ID, and they would give me a look like I had 3 heads and be like "I need an ID to buy PEPSI now?!" and I would have to go into my explanation over the glitch in the system.

It was really bad though when I was explaining to one guy it had been like this since Friday.  I  blamed it on Pepsi and said they should be out tomorrow to fix the glitch.  That is when he showed me his Pepsi ID badge and said he had never head of any such thing happening.  I was MORTIFIED I thew this poor man under the bus.

PS... Nobody ever posts anymore... Did they all switch to a FB Target Bitching group and if so what is it called?

Starbucks opened today at our Target. So of course I had to go in on my day off to try it. Yummy! I love the coffee and the breakfast sandwiches. I have a feeling I'm going to be spending a LOT of time there. :)

Target is staying open unil 1 am next Friday for the release of Twilight-The New Moon on DVD....WTF!?!

This is completely NUTS. We will still sell out of the damn movie on Saturday for those who don't want to wait up all night to get the FIRST copies. Really seriously it's not a big deal and there is no need for us to do this.

Oddly enough we haven't advertised for this even. The least they could do is put up signs saying "THE NEW MOON IS COMING on Feb 10th and we are open till 1am so come get your copy."

05h0twheels Does anyone know how much a backroom team member gets paid starting at 4am in the morning? I think I'm getting underpaid because my checks still say "primary workcenter:cashier". And I transferred from that awhile back.

Okay, why does the freakin' Team Member Services never work online...
Sometimes I can't always go into the store to use the computer there to change it but it never works at home. They really need to change the ENTIRE format of that thing.

3:47 pm - Remodel

reneeisxena
The remodel is in full swing now. The former food ave is boarded up and there is a doorway marked "Do Not Enter". The backroom looks like a bomb hit it and a few other areas have already been dismantled, the fitting rooms for one. This is the second remodel I've been through and I always find the hubbub and activity kind of exciting. I'm easily entertained I guess. I've gotten mostly cashier shifts with a couple operator and service desk shifts. I don't know when Starbucks will start their interviews or whether I'll pass inspection. I'm not really worried, but I know the training will be intensive.

8:09 pm - Starbucks in Target

reneeisxena
On Jan. 2 they will be closing food avenue to put in a Starbucks. Has anyone gone through this re-fit before? How long does it take? How long will the training take? I am excited and a bit nervous, I've never been to any Starbucks before, much less one in a Target. So any info you all can give me would be great.

1:39 pm - Being a Cart Attendant sucks
aprimmer243 I live in florida, and I got a job at Target about a month ago. My choices on my Application were; #1: Sales Floor, #2: Cashier, and #3: Food Service.

I thought I'd actually get food service, seeing as I had experience in the food industry.

But no, they made me a cart attendant, and they make me do more than what's in my job description.

Picking up every other cart attendants shifts who don't wanna come in cause they don't feel like it, is not part of my job description.

Especially yesterday, when the cart attendant who was there before me did a really shitty job, no carts in grocery, and no carts in GM, and he just hands me the keys and the remote and says "Here you go", with this big shit eating grin on his face.

Right after I clocked in and started grabbing carts, my walkie exploded with the LOD, GSTL, and the GSA asking for shit from me. Like, "Cart Attendant, spill in the ladies restroom." "Cart Attendant, you have Salvage and CRC at Guest Services that need to be taken to the back room" and "Cart Attendant, can you change the 4 trash cans out front please? They are overflowing"

All but the first one should've been taken care of before the other attendant left. But not only that, it just seemed like he didn't do anything that whole day. How are you gonna leave me with only 12 carts on the grocery side?

Then, near the end of my shift, (i was closing), the LOD just asks how i'm doing. I told her I was fine, and she said ok. About 35 minutes later, she comes out and says "hey, I asked you about an hour ago if you needed help. We are about to close the store, and there are still a ton of carts out here. I thought you said you had it?"

She NEVER asked if I needed help. If she did, I would've said yes in a heartbeat.

-sigh- and that was just one of my days...

1:27 pm - Black Friday.

reneeisxena
So how was everyone's Black Friday? I opened food ave and at first it was a bit slow but then at around 1AM it got crazy. I called for additional help, soon there were 3 of us back there, one running the register and 2 getting food. I didn't get my first break until 3AM! Of course by 4:30AM it had really died down. I must say most people were polite and no one got upset when we couldn't get the Icee machine to work or when they had to wait for popcorn. I wonder how different next year will be when we have a Starbucks? Anyone here work in Starbucks, was it busy? This was my ninth Black Friday and I had never seen the line so long, it went all the way around the building to the receiving door. I think the weather being so much nicer than in past years had something to do with the amount of people in line. I'm just glad it's over.

Does anyone here do instocks frequently? If so, are any of you part of the research-only test stores? I'm curious how other stores, particularly stores bigger than mine (lately we've been doing $35-40k a day), are handling this.

For all the backroom TMs... how often is your backroom completely empty, meaning not one piece of backstock anywhere in the back that hasn't been located yet? And what do you do when that happens? My store comes clean maybe once a month, if that, and I can't imagine that other stores run like that. :/
